BILLINGS – The Billings Police Department announced Wednesday it has gone live on Twitter and will no longer issue traditional press releases.
“Our goal is to get information out to the public and (the media) much quicker,” Lt. Brandon Wooley said in a press release. “All of our commanders will have the ability to send information or updates out on the Twitter platform.”
As a result, Wooley said, and “to ensure consistency of information and prevent additional workload,” commanders will no longer issue typed press releases sent to the media by email.
“They will be using Twitter to push out information,” Wooley said.
The department may issue traditional press releases under some circumstances, Wooley said.
