Update 8:38 p.m. The northbound lanes of Main Street are open. The southbound lanes are restricted until the gas line is fixed.
North bound lanes are now open. South bound lanes are restricted to one lane for a few more hours until the gas line is fixed.

Update 5:47 p.m. Billings police say Main Street is closed southbound at Josephine Lane and northbound at Hilltop.
Main street is closed due to a gas leak. It is closed southbound at Josephine Lane and Northbound at Hilltop. Please use Bench Blvd and Lake Elmo as alternate routes through the heights.

Update 5:10 p.m. Main Street was reopened after MDU shut down the gas line, but south-bound traffic has been reduced to one lane near the intersection of Milton Drive.
Milton Road is closed east of Lake Elmo Drive.
Authorities have not evacuated buildings.
BILLINGS- Main Street and Milton Road in Billings Heights are closed in both diretions Tuesday afternoon because of “major damage” done to gas line, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.
Travelers are advised to find an alternate route, such as Bench Boulevard or Interstate 90, according to the transportation department.
The closure alert was sent at 4:45 p.m.
Billings police and firefighters are on the scene.
