HARDIN- A 79-year-old man was struck and killed Sunday while walking on Montana Highway 47 near the Love’s truck stop in Hardin.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, the man was walking north on Highway 47 and stepped into the northbound lane Sunday. An oncoming semi swerved to avoid him, but a Ford pickup behind the semi did not and struck the man.

Responders performed emergency resuscitation on the man at the scene, and he was transported to Big Horn County Memorial Hospital, where he died, according to highway patrol.

Neither the man nor his hometown have been identified.

The highway patrol does not know if alcohol or drugs were factors, and troopers do not anticipate charges against the driver.
