BILLINGS- Yellowstone County commissioners have accepted a recommendation to rename MetraPark arena the First Interstate Bank Arena.
Commissioner John Ostlund confirmed Tuesday afternoon after commissioners met earlier that morning.
But that doesn’t mean the deal is done quite yet.
There are now 30 days allotted for negotiations between Metra and First Interstate, with a final agreement to be presented back to the county commissioners.
The arena’s current namesake, Rimrock Auto, decided to not renew its 10-year contract with MetraPark, which expires in May.
The Yellowstone County Commissioners put out a request for proposals to the public back in November and received two.
Along with First Interstate, Ultra Graphics, both of which are based in Billings, put forward proposals to get its name on the side of the arena.
The committee has asked the board to start negotiations on behalf of the board of county commissioners with First Interstate.
