U.S. Marshals: Arrest of violent offenders up in 2018 in Montana

HELENA- The Montana Violent Offender Task Force arrested 1,871 felony fugitives in 2018, a 26 percent increase from the previous year.

That update came Wednesday from Rod Ostermiller of the U.S. Marshals Services, which sponsors the partnership of city, county, state and federal and law enforcement.

In addition to the arrests, the tas force seized 6,908 grams of meth, 488 grams of heroin, 36 firearms and 21 stolen vehicles.

In addition, the U.S. Marshals sponsored sex offender compliance operations in 12 counties in six reservations in Montana. They contacted 1,359 sex offenders, or about half of all registered in Montana.
