BILLINGS- Billings police said Tuesday’s afternoon incident downtown where a man suffered a gunshot remains an open investigation.

A 24-year-old man told police he was randomly shot in the leg while in front of the US Bank building on Broadway.

Then the man apparently ran to another location downtown at the corner of Second Avenue North and North 27th Street and fell in the snow.

Witnesses said they saw the man applying a tourniquet to his leg so bystanders called 911 for help.

The man told police the shot came from an unknown direction.

Billings police say they are still investigating what led to the man’s gunshot wound. Although the shooter apparently remains at large, police insist the public is in no danger.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
