Kristen Volmer, who is from Laurel, was one of the runners.  She said the women – who all had to get through tough qualifiers before the race – all made the trip to the starting line together.

“I’m so proud of everyone,” said Volmer. “I’m honored to have been able to do it.”

Mary Owen had the fastest finishing time in the group, running 26.2 miles in just 3 hours and 1 minute.

The Boston Marathon is one of the most well-known races in the country, bringing in runners and spectators from all over the world.

“The Boston support was amazing the whole way,” said Volmer. “We want to thank the volunteers, the fantastic spectators, and our supporters back home.  We all feel honored to have been part of this historic race.”

Over 40 Montanans were registered to participate in the Boston Marathon this year.
