Helicopter transports injured man after west Billings wreck

UPDATE 4:00 P.M. – The Montana Highway Patrol has confirmed with Q2 that the 58-year-old male driving the Porsche has died.

MHP said the Porsche was traveling westbound on Rimrock Road approaching 54th Street West. The Suburban was traveling southbound on Rimrock Road. Both cars had a yellow light at the traffic signal on 54th Street West.

MHP said the Porsche attempted to turn southbound onto 54th Street West hitting the Suburban. Both vehicles were pushed off the road into the southwest corner of the intersection. The force of the impact caused the Suburban to come to rest on its side.

MHP said it is unknown if either driver was wearing a seat belt.

UPDATE 10:20 A.M. – The Billings Police Department has opened the intersection of 54th and Rimrock Road.

Update 10:15 p.m. The person transported by a St. Vincent Healthcare Help Flight helicopter to a Billings hospital was a 58-year-old Billings man, who was driving a 2003 Porsche Boxster, according to Billings police.

The other driver was a 31-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Texas in a 2017 Suburban. Billings police did not say if she was injured.

Billings Police Sgt. Nate West said the intersection will be closed into the early Saturday morning hours as the crash team investigates the accident.

BILLINGS- A Help Flight helicopter is transporting one person to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash in west Billings Friday evening.

Billings police have blocked Rimrock Road at the intersection of 54th Street West as they investigate the crash.

Billings police, Billings firefighters and AMR ambulance are on the scene.

The crash happened about 9:30 p.m. One vehicle was seen on its side, and the other was upright.

This is a developing story.
