Fire forces residents to evacuate Billings apartment complex

Fire officials said the fire was caused by combustibles left on top of the furnace and was determined to be accidental.

Smoke alarms activated and all the occupants were able to escape safely.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

BILLINGS  – The Billings Fire Department responded to a fire call early Tuesday at 2708 2nd. Ave. S.

The fire, reported at about 3 a.m., was in an apartment complex and the tenants of the building were evacuated.

Officials said there were no injuries to any of the occupants of the complex.

Smoke was vented out of the apartment as fire crews extinguished a small fire.

A cat was rescued from the building and given oxygen by firefighters.

A cause and estimated damages were under investigation.
