Blood bank seeking donations as supply falls in Yellowstone County

BILLINGS- The blood supply in Yellowstone County is now critically low, and area suppliers are asking for help.

In a press release from Vitalant, previously known as United Blood Services, managers say the area’s blood shortage is a “life-critical situation.”

Over the past two weeks, there’s been a shortfall of 7,700 blood donations, according to the company.

Vitalant tries to keep a four-day supply of each blood type on hand. However, some locations only have a single day supply of type-O blood, and others, have even less.

Vitalant is at 144 Grand Ave. in Billings. Hours of operations are: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday throught Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The blood banks also collects in Cody, Wyo., Ekalaka, Winnett, Baker, Forsyth and Roundup.
