Montana Highway Patrol troopers responded to two separate car crashes that killed three people Sunday.
First, in Big Horn County, a 2007 Ford Edge carrying both a 17-year-old male and female from Billings, drifted off the road on Old Highway 87. The car hit an embankment, which sent it airborne, and both passengers were ejected upon impact. Neither passenger nor driver were wearing their seatbelt. Both teens, who weren't identified by troopers, were pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers believe excessive speed contributed to the crash.
Also Sunday on I-94 East in Rosebud County, speed was a factor when a 2006 Mazda lost control and went over a hill. An 11-year-old girl from Libby was killed when she was ejected from the back seat of the car once it made impact. The girl was reportedly wearing her seat belt, as were the other two in the vehicle. The driver and other passenger were also both from Libby. The male driver, 16, suffered no injury, but the 12-year-old male passenger was taken to the hospital. No word yet on his condition.
And on Friday night, the troopers responded to a two-car crash on the Rocky Boy Reservation in Cascade County. Five people, including two children were killed when one car lost control. The five people killed were all from the same family.
