BILLINGS — Star Wars fans rallied once again at the Babcock Theatre as "The Rise of Skywalker," the final installment of the Star Wars franchise, premiered Friday.

The Babcock celebrated the opening of the movie in a big way, with many viewers decked out in Star Wars garb.

"This weekend we are opening Star Wars Rise of Skywalker. This is the latest Star Wars film, and we're so excited for it," the Babcock Theater's creative director, Brian Oestereich, said.

Star Wars fans are getting long awaited closure on storylines and long-time characters.

"It's the last chapter of the Skywalker epic, all nine of the films thus far," Oestereich said.

It is a story that has spanned over 43 years, and some in attendance may have even watched the earlier movies at the pre-renovated Babcock Theater.

"We all grew up with Luke Skywalker, we grew up with Princess Leia, of course with Carrie Fisher, this being her last film as well. We've already seen Han Solo come to an end. Just sort of sad to see it come to an end with this group of people," Oestereich said.

The film features themes of growth, heroics, and camaraderie earning a very loyal fandom through the years.

"We know that with Disney at the hands of the Star Wars franchise, there's going to be a lot of interesting things going on. The Mandalorian's (on the Disney Plus streaming series) doing interesting things. We know that this isn't the end of Star Wars, but it is kind of the end as we know it," Oestereich said.
