A Billings developer says west Billings has the types of business that creates the opportunity for a new hotel and an event center.

Veeder Homestead, LLC, has two separate projects on at 2225 Overland Ave.

One is a 137-room, $12 million Courtyard By Mariott Hotel, which caters to business travelers.

The company's other project is the renovation of the old Carmike movie theater into a 30,000-square-foot event or conference center.

The center will not be part of the hotel and the two will run as separate businesses.

"The Marriott Courtyard is separate from the event center, and will remain separate," said David Veeder, who along with his wife owns Veeder Homestead. "But obviously, there will be interaction and interplay and there will be people using the event center and they will be staying. Certainly some of them as guests in the Mariott Courtyard."

Veeder said he likes the location because it is close to restaurants and stores.

Construction started during the summer.

Veeder said COVID-19 has slowed both projects and he does not have an estimate on completion dates.
