BILLINGS - The Billings Catholic Schools Foundation announced Tuesday it has canceled the Mayfair 2020 fundraising event.

The event had been scheduled to take place on May 2.

The foundation also announced it has canceled the Mayfair Carnival, which was scheduled to take place May 17.

Janyce Haider, BCS Foundation President, stated in a press release that the decision to cancel these events is in line with Yellowstone County Public Health and CDC recommendations to reduce the risk of possible exposure to the coronavirus (COVID-19) for the safety of event attendees, participants and the community.

“As many are aware, Mayfair is our biggest fundraising event and a large number of sponsors and patrons have already come forward with pledges and donations,” said Haider.

Haider said the Foundation Board is exploring the possibility of potential fundraising events similar to Mayfair in summer or fall that will continue to provide the necessary support and financial contribution that are key to the success of Billings Catholic Schools, the press reelase states. The foundation staff and board and Mayfair committee are continuing to meet and explore all possible options.

“We are deeply grateful for our generous supporters, and know they understand the severe impact of this unforeseen situation,” Haider said, noting many are also likely experiencing negative effects. “We feel the need to protect the very people who have so generously helped build our endowment, improved our capability to provide distance learning, and quite frankly have kept our schools going during some very dark times.”
