BILLINGS — The Billings Food Bank served Thanksgiving dinner to around 300 people at it's 4th Avenue North location, and delivered about 150 food boxes to people Thursday.

“We're very busy which is good," said food bank executive chef David Maplethorpe. "Right around 11 o'clock we were full."

Maplethorpe said all that food wouldn't have been possible without the help of the 11 volunteer delivery drivers, and 25 volunteer dining room helpers.

“Thanks to our volunteers, they really make this happen,” Maplethorpe said. They are very gracious to come out on their Thanksgiving day to help us, it's very much appreciated."

The people served the food appreciate it even more.

"We think it's something that has to be done. There are a lot of people that have that need, and we're here to meet that need for them," Maplethorpe said.

Maplethorpe said he's been cooking charity Thanksgiving dinners in Billings for years. While he doesn't have any family in town, he invited the whole city to his table instead.

"It's a pleasure to do it. It’s a pleasure of love," Maplethorpe said.

With the Thanksgiving holiday in the books, the food bank is now under the gun to prepare for Christmas.

They are always looking for more donations.
