BILLINGS — Medicine Crow Middle School Principal Nicole Hofmann will keep her job Wednesday following a school district investigation into racially charged social media posts that were found on the principal's shared personal Facebook page in June.

"The information from the investigation showed that Miss Hoffman has worked with children in a very strong manner, has been supportive of all students. I realize this is a very tenuous situation and I have looked at all of the material," said Greg Upham, Billings School District 2 superintendent at a media conference.

As part of disciplinary measures, Upham said Hofmann received a written warning, will receive ongoing training in nondiscrimination and is receiving ongoing supervision from her supervisor.

Hofmann also sent out a letter of apology to the Medicine Crow parents and will work to regain trust with the community, Upham said.

“We looked at everything. With the information that was provided, I was comfortable that miss Hoffman has treated students fairly in her entire career and will continue to do so," Upham said.

Upham said the school district doesn't have a staff policy specifically addressing what they may post on their personal social media.

“Specific to that, no. We need to improve in that area for sure," Upham said.

Community members originally found the posts made from an account with the username Mike Hofmann. They found that Nicole Hofmann would use Mike Hofmann's account to post school-related information on Medicine Crow parent Facebook groups.
