Burn The Point Weekend was canceled because of COVID-19, but part of the classic car tradition went on Saturday.
The 9th Annual Montana Classic Car Auction brought buyers and sellers together at the Billings Public Auto Auction.
About 80 cars were auctioned with buyers in Billings and around the country and even in Israel.
Organizers normally hold the auction at the MetraPark Expo Center on the same day as the Burn the Point car show.
"We usually partner with Burn the Point but they canceled their parade this year," said Sherri Steilen, officer manager for the Montana Classic Car Auction. "So we have all these cars online on our website for months ahead of time and they pay their consignment fees so we just decided we're going to go ahead and have our auction. We did a lot of work here to get our lot ready and get all of our tents outside and everything we could do to get within the guidelines and make sure we could have an event. It's a little car show in itself but an opportunity to auction the cars off and own one if you'd like."
Steilen says there's something special about the classic cars.
"It's exciting and so beautiful and shiny and there's just something about them that has a story, everyone of them," Steilen said. "And I think that's what a lot of people like about classic cars. They're like I remember when I had that or my dad had that or somebody had that. You just fall in love with certain kinds of cars and when you bring old classics, there's some history there."
The Montana Classic Car Auction will still donate to Burn the Point and the Chase Hawks Memorial Association.
