As Montana moves forward with reopening, the Crow tribe has decided to stay on lockdown for another month.
The tribe posted on its Facebook page Wednesday that Chairman Alvin "A.J." Not Afraid extended the tribe's stay-at-home order until June 15. The order was set to expire Thursday.
The action comes two days after a new case of COVID-19 was reported on the reservation. The woman in her 20s lives in Lodge Grass, according to Mayor Quincy Dabney, who locked down his city Tuesday.
The order keeps all nonessential businesses closed on the reservation and curtails travel. When the order first went into place March 28, the tribe set up checkpoints at the reservation to discourage travelers from entering.
Gov. Steve Bullock lifted Montana's stay-at-home order April 24. He also said that tribes could keep their orders in place if they deemed necessary to protect reservations against COVID-19 spread.
The Northern Cheyenne tribe has taken a similar action, extending its stay-at-home until May 31.
