BILLINGS — The Falling Star Fire burning north of Park City reached 100 percent containment Tuesday after an inch of rain helped to snuff it out Monday night, according to Carol Arkell, Stillwater County disaster and emergency services coordinator.

Crews have dug lines around the fire's perimeter and will stay in the area for the next two days to monitor hot spots, Arkell said.

The fire burned about 2,200 acres north of Park City in the area of Falling Star Trail and Benedict Gulch Road. No structures were lost to the fire.

Only local firefighters from Columbus and Park City remain to monitor the burned area, Arkell said. Over the weekend, there was a large response from surrounding counties, the state and federal agencies along with aerial support fighting the fire.
