The closure between mile markers 331 and 338 was due to weather conditions, according to the agency's Traveler Info Map.
The stretch of highway was initially closed Wednesday afternoon.
A detour was in place at Livingston, and westbound motorists were advised to use the detour through Livingston.
I-90 eastbound lanes remained open.
