Whether it's been called the Midland Empire Fair, the Yellowstone Exhibition, or MontanaFair, the event has never been canceled.

Now the MetraPark staff is looking into how it can safely keep the tradition going.

Marketing manager Ray Massie says kids and their livestock are a huge motivation to keep the fair going.

"We've been working really hard along with peers throughout the state of Montana, our partners, our carnivals, those kind of things, in order to bring fairs to the state of Montana," Massie said. "We are planning to bring MontanaFair to occur Aug. 7-15. We've been talking to guests to kind of see what they want. But the main thing we want to happen is we want an open and safe environment for people to come and enjoy MontanaFair or any fair throughout the state of Montana this year."

COVID-19 and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock's stay-at-home order have forced MetraPark to postpone some concerts: Toby Keith has been rescheduled for Sept. 17 and Cher has been rescheduled to Oct. 6.
