Construction crews are in the beginning stages of a $400 million wind farm near Bridger, and the company discussed the Pryor Mountain Wind Project at Bridger Elementary School on Wednesday night.
Close to 100 came out to hear from PacifiCorp out of Salt Lake City and Mortenson Construction from Minneapolis.
This fall, the crews will build the roads so the heavy trucks and equipment can get around the 15,000 acres.
Crews will work until Thanksgiving and if necessary finish the roads in the spring.
"We have to build serviceable roads, so that one, we can get to them for construction and then two, when we're maintaining the project, we have to be able to get to a turbine at all times of the year," said Ken Clark, PacifiCorp senior business development sSpecialist.
The 114 turbines will be built on land southeast of Bridger to power about 76,000 homes.
Many of questions from the public were about roads, dust, finances and taxes.
The meeting was also a chance to network for possible business opportunities.
"We expect the project to be around for 30 years,” Clark said. “We want the construction to go smoothly. We want the community to see the benefits of the project. We want to minimize any downsides to the project. And we want to establish a relationship that's going to last for the life of the project."
PacifiCorp wrote a $4 million check to Carbon County this week for part of $6 million impact fee.
Part of that will help pay for repairs to a bridge on Pryor Mountain Road near the project.
