People all across Billings and Yellowstone County have a passion for helping those affected by cancer.

They showed it Wednesday night at the Pub Station in Billings, when Relay for Life kicked off its annual fundraiser.

Local band Arterial Drive performed at the event.

This year's theme is "A Future So Bright."

The goal is to raise $635,000 this year.

Last year, Yellowstone County Relay for Life relay raised $605,000, the sixth-highest total in the world for Relay for Life groups.

"It's humbling that a community the size of Billings can compete with major metro markets in terms of money raised." said Dave Worstell, Yellowstone County Relay For LIfe co-chair. "So it just shows the passion and the commitment and momentum that's taken place over the years. The event in July is more emotional. you see passion behind folks that have had family members affected by cancer, caregivers, a lot of people have been touched by this disease. So I think that's what drives parties like this and the relay that's held in July."

The Yellowstone County Relay For Life is on Friday, July 10 at West High School.
