The South Side Neighborhood Task Force recently received an artistic grant from Big Sky Economic Development of Billings to visually improve the Sixth Street underpass area. Plans are now underway for the new Rise and Shine mural that will soon be adding color to the area.
“It’s going to be a work of art,” said local western and wildlife artist Elyssa Leininger, who is spearheading the creative end of the project.
“It’s not going to be just a mural. It will be fine art. It will be a western-style piece, with all of the wildlife representing the diversity of the residents of Billings South Side. And, of course, there will be a beautiful sunrise over the Yellowstone Valley, because the theme of the mural is ‘Rise and Shine, a Mural for the Community.”
Though the Rise and Shine mural is privately funded, donations and community involvement on all levels are strongly encouraged.
