BILLINGS — About 230 people showed up to South Park in Billings Saturday, to run and help raise money for the Riverstone Health Foundation's program that promotes literacy in kids.
"The run was awesome," said Riverstone volunteer Drew Hedrick. "We’re here, we’ve got music going in the background, we’ve got food and drinks, it’s been a great time."
The 5K run started at the South Park pavilion before snaking through the Billings south side neighborhood.
After the 5K, Riverstone held a shorter run for kids. Organizers said hopefully the kids run helps ingrain the habit of exercise into the youth.
A portion of the race entry fees was given to Riverstone Reads.
Riverstone Reads is a program ran by the Riverstone Health Foundation. The program gives a free book to every kid aged 6-months to 18-years that visits the doctor at Riverstone.
"They are kids who may not have books at home," said Hedrick. "It has really turned into a great program."
Riverstone stated on its website, "the medical provider uses (the book) during the child's visit to discuss the importance of reading at home."
