Sam's Club stores around the country, including in Billings, started a new program called Hero Hours, on Sunday.

The 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. time is normally reserved for company employees.

Now it will now include health care workers and first responders.

Masks are provided on entry to make the experience as safe as possible.

The idea started when Sam's Club workers invited emergency room personnel to shop with them.

Management decided to do the same nationwide.

“Mr. Sam once said that the best ideas come from our associates and we believe this to be true now more than ever,” Lance de la Rosa, executive vice-president and CEO, stated in Sam’s news blog. “What an act of kindness and consideration for those on the front lines! It’s inspiring to watch the ways our associates serve those around them.”

The company will have Hero Hours until further notice.
