South-central Montana rivers approaching flood stage

Melting mountain snow is expected to swell areas rivers near and above flood stages into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River is forecast to rise above flood stage at Belfry and Edgar on Thursday and Friday.

The Yellowstone River in Billings to crest at 13.3 feet on Saturday and Sunday, just below the flood stage of 13.5 feet, according to the weather service.

Billings firefighters are warning recreators to stay off the rivers during these high-water times.

In a video posted on Twitter, firefighters said the fast water has an unusually strong current, which can catch even experienced swimmers and boaters off guard.
