BILLINGS — The Billings Career Center is known for helping high school students gain hands-on experience for future jobs.
Saturday, students in second through eighth grade were given that same opportunity, for “Adventures in Health and Medicine”.
STEM Yellowstone is a coalition of business, industry, and education STEM fans who love helping kids have fun and encouraging them to think big about their futures.
"There are nine different activities that kids 2-8 are able to come and sign up for a couple different sessions and learn about like bio-mechanical engineering, capillary action," Wise Wonders Children's Museum's Executive Director Pete Bowlenbaugh said.
The day helps to give a more practical understanding of all things medical.
"I think it makes them realize that this is attainable. It's not that these are jobs that people have in New York City or Boston or China,"Bowlenbaugh said.
Volunteers and experts were on hand to help with each lesson.
Students used technology to learn about age related problems, including tinnitus and vision loss.
They also got to go to another world with virtual reality goggles.
"You never can learn everything, right? What I learned from these kids is you learn every day, it's a cheesy saying that you learn something new every day. But that quite literally is true," Bowlenbaugh said.
