Weather causing a mess across Montana roads

UPDATE: 7:44 p.m. - Severe driving conditions are present on Highway 308 from Red Lodge to Belfry as of 7:28 p.m. Saturday, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.

The highways classification was changed due to, "low visibility, blowing and drifting, snow and ice with high wind speeds," according to an MDT email.

The MDT has announced that Highway 191, also known as MT 3, has been closed due to severe weather and road conditions. Please check back with Q2 for the latest information.



UPDATE:

The Montana Department of Transportation issued a severe driving alert for the road between Harlowton and Garneill at about 3:45 Saturday.

MDT said the roads have blowing and drifting, high winds, ice and snow.



Severe weather and road conditions have sparked road closures and officials are urging travelers to slow down and be careful.

The Rosebud County Sheriff's Office posted on their Facebook page that Highway 212 between Ashland and Lame Deer is closed after multiple crashes and slideoffs.

Ski Run Road outside of Red LOdge was briefly closed due to weather, but was partially reopened by 1 p.m.

Earlier on Saturday, the Montana Department of Transportation was urging drivers to avoid the Columbus area.
