In honor of Stand Up for Grain Safety Week, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Montana Fire Alliance to support farm safety training and equipment at volunteer fire departments in barley growing states like Montana.
Sponsored by the National Grain and Feed Association and OSHA, Stand Up for Grain Safety Week is an annual safety outreach effort that helps raise awareness about grain handling and storage hazards and provides education and training along with conveying safety best practices.
Jess Newman is Senior Director of Agriculture Procurement and Sustainability at Anheuser-Busch and says they’re proud to support farm safety.
“We recently put new responsible sourcing principles into our contracts that are laser focused on farm safety and released a voluntary farm safety checklist as a tool for all of our Anheuser-Busch barley, rice and hops growers,” said Newman. “So we're committed to our partner safety and I'm really excited about all the activity that's been happening this week.”
Rural fire departments are often the first responders when an accident happens on the farm. That’s why she says the Anheuser-Busch Foundation is honored to donate $25,000 to the Montana Fire Alliance to support farm safety training and equipment.
“In honor of National Grain Safety Week, Anheuser-Busch Foundation is proud to announce a $25,000 donation to the Montana Fire Alliance, specifically to support farm safety training in equipment at those rural volunteer fire departments,” said Newman. “The Montana Fire Alliance will be distributing those funds to rural volunteer fire departments in all the states where we work directly with growers. That's Arkansas, Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Washington state.”
With another planting season upon us, Jess reminds everyone to be safe this spring.
“We're finally able to get to work now. Agriculture doesn't stop,” said Newman. “You know, these are the jobs that can't pause. So as you get back out there, work safe and think safe. If you have any questions about the different safe farm safety initiatives or support that AB can offer you, please contact your local Anheuser-Busch elevator or your AB agronomist. Stay safe out there. This Bud's for our rural fire departments and in particular, for all our Anheuser-Busch barley growers.”
We certainly salute all of our first responders and say thank you for a job well done!
