GREAT FALLS - A concept that sounds more like a nice pairing for dinner has become a business plan for a third-generation Montana ranch.
The idea of feeding wine to cows came after a day of fixing fences.
The now-owner of Montana Wine Beef, Bre Ochs, was having a beer when her registered Black Angus bull decided to stroll over and have a swig himself.
Bre Ochs, the owner of Montana Wine Beef, explained that after a day fixing fences on the ranch, she was enjoying a glass of red wine outside. Her then two-year-old registered Black Angus bull, Zeus, wandered over, hit her glass and “drank the whole thing,” leaving her glass empty save for grass and slobber.
Bre said it was an "ah-ha!" moment, and after some trial and error, it became clear that mead wine was the ticket.
