GREAT FALLS – Dozens of people in black walked along Central Avenue in Great Falls on Saturday to raise awareness of human trafficking.

The Walk for Freedom is a global event organized by anti-trafficking group A21.

Central Avenue was blocked off as participants walked from the Great Falls Civic Center to 8th Street in the middle of Central Avenue.

Freedom walkers carried signs and gave out information on how people can fight human trafficking on a local level.

Host Melissa Belderrain said there were 450 walks in over 50 countries globally.

“So as far as locally here, we hope to bring awareness,” Belderrain said. “Sometimes in our community, we tend to think that human trafficking is not an issue, but it really is. We’ve been working with some of the trafficking task force here and it’s a bigger problem than we realize that it is.”

Great Falls was the only Montana city to participate in the Walk for Freedom.
