HELENA – Montana Gov. Steve Bullock issued a proclamation Monday ordering all flags flown in the state be displayed at half-staff.

The order – which takes effect Monday and lasts until sunset on Wednesday – is “out of respect for the victims and the families of the mass shooting that took place at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 27th, 2018,” the proclamation states.

The proclamation continues:

Montana stands in solidarity with the Jewish community of Pittsburgh, and communities across the nation, against this anti-Semitic act of hatred and violence. What is happening across America is unacceptable. Gun violence and hate crimes continue to increase at the places where we gather to live, learn, work, and pray. It is my hope that we as a nation can come together based upon our shared values of civility, decency, and respect, instead of being torn apart by fear and hatred. We must work towards a society where these acts of violence are not only condemned but are unheard of.
