BILLINGS- A suspected case of AFM, a rare disease that causes a neurological condition in mostly children, has been confirmed in Montana.
The case was found in an adult in Gallatin County.
Jon Ebelt with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services says there is still a second suspected case in Gallatin County, where testing results are still pending.
He says there are no other suspected cases around the state.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed dozens of cases of acute flaccid myelitis, this year in the U.S. The disease has been described as “polio-like” by health experts because it attacks the nervous system and weakens muscles and reflexes.
The last time Montana had a case of AFM was back in 2015 in Yellowstone County, where Ebelt said the case was reported in a child.
