BOZEMAN– The Montana Highway Patrol said two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 90 in Gallatin County on Monday night.

It happened in the eastbound lanes of I-90 at mile marker 291, about halfway between Belgrade and Manhattan at 11 p.m. The highway patrol said a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling too quickly for the slick and icy road conditions.

The Mercury hit a semi trailer, which in turn hit a 2012 Ford Edge.

A 35-year-old woman from Willow Creek and a 41-year-old man from Fairview were both ejected from the Mercury and died at the scene. Both were not wearing seat belts.

The semi driver was a man from Denver and was not injured. Four people in the Ford Edge were also not injured. Both the semi driver and all four occupants of the Ford Edge were wearing seat belts.

According to MHP, speed and road conditions were the cause of the wreck and the crash remains under investigation.
