On Feb. 2, 1989, a set of train cars rolled down from near Mullan Pass to the Benton Avenue crossing in Helena.
When those trains cars crashed into others near the crossing, volatile chemicals exploded.
The blast damaged Carroll College, nearby homes and businesses, and knocked out power to much of the city.
Miraculously, no one was killed or seriously injured.
This special Face the State is the story of that day.
