Helena girl crowned champ of Treasure State Spelling Bee

BILLINGS – Abnegation, Chinos, and Purvayer were just some of the words that helped determine the 2019 Treasure State Spelling Bee Champion at the Rocky Mountain College Fortin Gym on Saturday.

Sixty-one students in the fifth through eighth grades from all over Montana qualified for the state bee.

Clara Harmon, a home school student from Lewis and Clark County, is the champ.

Annie Condon from Ben Steele Middle School came in second.

Kyra Hutchinson, a home school student from Flathead County placed third.

Harmon will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland, from May 26-31.
