MISSOULA – Students around the world walked out of class to protest climate change as part of Youth Strike for Climate Day.

Students from Big Sky and Hellgate high schools in Missoula participated in the protests on Friday.

They protested in front of the courthouse and also attempted to block off traffic on Broadway.

The walkouts are intended to bring awareness to issues surrounding climate education.

Big Sky student Priscilla Applegate says they chose to demonstrate in the street so people would read their signs.

“Do what you’re doing, go out here and protest, tell people what you have to say. Let them listen to you,” the freshman said.

Thousands of schools worldwide participated in Friday’s walkouts.
