HELENA – In celebration of Earth Day, students from Cottonwood Learning Center celebrated by planting trees at the VA Cemetery Monday morning.
NorthWestern Energy donated $2,000 for 20 trees to be planted around the cemetery at Fort Harrison.
Students and volunteers planted trees like sugar maples and elder wood.
They also learned about the importance of planting trees and participated in a workshop.
Patrick Plantenberg, Montana state director for ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) said, “And so by planting here on Earth Day, today, we can plant 20 trees at the same time it would take to plant four of those big trees and get much better results to increase the diversity of this urban forest, here, at the VA.”
