BELGRADE – A section of Interstate 90 in Belgrade closed Wednesday afternoon while authorities investigated a “serious-injury crash.”

MTN News has confirmed a man on the roadway was struck by a semi truck around 4 p.m. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office says I-90 W is closed between the Airport exit and Belgrade exit. It should reopen around 10 p.m.

Neither MHP or the sheriff’s office has yet officially confirmed a fatality, but information on the highway patrol’s incident map indicates a fatal accident.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Daniel Amundson confirmed a man was in the roadway and was hit by a tractor trailer.

“We have a serious injury-accident,” Amundson says. “It was a motor vehicle versus pedestrian.”

Sgt. Amundson says that forced the entire westbound lane of I-90 near Exit 299 to be re-routed.

“We shut down the road while we were able to do serious medical treatment,” Amundson says. “We got the evening rush hour coming on at the four to five o’clock hour here in the Bozeman-Belgrade area. We need to investigate the crash. We have a number of investigators out here.”

The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that the portion of I-90 will be closed for a few hours Wednesday evening and drivers should plan alternate routes.
