BUTTE – The Environmental Protection Agency is promising to help get funding to a group that wants to restore a portion of Silver Bow Creek.

In a meeting with Restore Our Creek earlier this week, the EPA said it would seek $50,000 from the Atlantic-Richfield Company to aid the group in hiring an engineer.

That engineer is tasked with coming up with a design to restore a nearly mile-long portion of the creek that runs through Butte.

“We’re optimistic, we’re hopeful, we continue to work with them, we hope they will come up with some resources so we can get a conceptual design done and the people of Butte could be assured that a creek could run through there,” said Restore Our Creek member Evan Barrett.

The Restore Our Creek group has been pressing this issue since the Superfund cleanup plan does not include restoring that part of Silver Bow Creek.
