Tornado warning sends Little Rockies Christian Camp hiding in cellar Thursday

Posted

PHILIPS COUNTY – It was a nerve-racking situation Thursday evening for nearly 40 people at Little Rockies Christian Camp near Landusky in Phillips County.

It was the first night of camp for second and third-graders. Camp staff started getting alerts on their phones warning of severe weather and possible tornadoes.

Camp leadership moved everyone into the cellar, where they passed the time and tried to keep calm.

“We sang songs, told a Bible story. There were a few tears, but overall the kids were champs, and we have a story to tell now,” said camp dean Amy McClenahan.

McClenahan said they spent about an hour in the cellar.

She said Wi-Fi is spotty at camp, but she tried to keep parents and friends updated about their safety on Facebook.
