The big weather event starts Thursday with the winds of change across the Rocky Mountain front. Winds there gusted to 80 mph Thursday. Out of the plains, it was more like 60 mph.

On Friday, the Winter Storm Warning begins at 6 p.m. and goes through 6 p.m. Sunday for 15 to 36 inches of snow in the plains, but higher amounts are possible in the nearby mountains.

Around that, we have a Winter Storm Watch, which is suggesting 12 to 24 inches of snow above the 3,000-foot level in northern Montana.

Watch the video above for a more detailed breakdown of what to expect as the winter storm moves through Montana.
