Montana wildlife officials euthanize grizzly near Shelby

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) says it captured and euthanized a grizzly bear found west of Shelby.

According to FWP's Prairie Bear Monitor Facebook page, the bear had become food-conditioned and habituated to people.

The bear had been involved in multiple conflicts this spring, and previous efforts to haze the bear were unsuccessful.

The young male grizzly had fed on spilled grain, livestock carcasses and a barbecue grill.

It was also known to have looked in windows and approached a person on porch.

The bear was killed last Friday.

FWP says securing and cleaning up attractants is the best way to prevent bears from coming near homes or becoming food-conditioned.
