A Belgrade man died Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest while cross-country skiing, according to a Gallatin County Sheriff's Search and Rescue press release.

He was identified as Steve Schwab, a retired teacher at Bozeman High School, according to the release.

According to the press release, search and rescue was dispatched around 11 a.m. Sunday for a report of a woman giving a man CPR on the groomed trails east of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

As the location was not accessible by ambulance, rescuers used snowmobiles and a four-wheeler to reach the man. Bozeman firefighters and Bozeman police also responded and were able to reach the location on foot.

The press release said that "despite the prompt deployment and response of SAR, medical, and law enforcement resources, the 66-year-old Belgrade man succumbed to a heart attack."
