Q2 Rewind: The birth of the Alberta Bair Theater in Billings

Posted

BILLINGS – The Alberta Bair Theater in downtown Billings is such an integral part of the region’s cultural fabric that it’s hard to imagine the arts community here without it.

But if it wasn’t for a dedicated group of arts lovers with a dream that wouldn’t die, the theater might never have existed. Back in the early 1980s, the old Fox Theater was on the decline, and the community feared that if it were sold to a commercial group, there would be no home for the performing arts in Billings.

Larry Martin was an instrumental part of the campaign to transform that old movie theater into the Alberta Bair as it is today. Watch this week’s Q2 Rewind above to hear him tell the story.

The Alberta Bair is once again raising the money to undergo a huge transformation. Next spring the curtains close for an extensive overhaul and modernization effort.
