Q2 Rewind: In 1989, Montana’s Centennial Ball brought thousands to Helena to remember statehood in style

BILLINGS- When Montana gained statehood in 1889, early plans for a grand inaugural ball never really materialized.

So when organizers for state centennial activities in Helena were putting the pieces together for Montana’s 100th birthday bash, they had the feeling they were giving Montana the ball that never was.

In this week’s Q2 Rewind, we look back at some of the festivities from that festive celebration. A sea of bow ties and ball gowns flooded the capitol’s halls, as party-goers dressed in their best period attire danced the night away.
