One person is dead and five others have been rescued after an avalanche at an Idaho ski resort Tuesday.
Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg, Idaho reports one fatality after an avalanche in the Wardner Peak area of the resort at 11 a.m.
Silver Mountain Ski Patrol and other volunteers immediately responded and began searching with probes.
One person died while five others were rescued with minor injuries, according to Silver Mountain.
The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department wrote on Facebook that its K-9 Team was sent to the avalanche.
The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office posted that they received a report of what could be up to three separate avalanches on the mountain just after 11 a.m.
Silver Mountain has not confirmed whether there are multiple avalanches.
Emergency responders coordinated the rescue effort with Silver Mountain, the sheriff's office said.
The search continues at this time with probes and rescue dogs.
Authorities in northern Idaho are responding to reports of a trio of avalanches that have hit Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho.
The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office received a report that possibly three separate avalanches happened on Silver Mountain early Tuesday afternoon.
According to a social media post from the Sheriff’s Office, there are reports that several people have been trapped in one of the avalanches.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that four people have been recovered from the Silver Mountain avalanche area.
Meanwhile, Silver Mountain reports an avalanche occurred on the Wardner Peak area and that the Silver Mountain Ski Patrol responded to the scene.
Search efforts continue utilizing the Silver Mountain Ski Patrol, Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue and Shoshone County Volunteer Search and Rescue.
A Backcountry Avalanche Warning issued by the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center in Sandpoint, Idaho remains in effect until Wednesday morning for the Selkirk Mountains, the Cabinet Mountains, the St. Regis Basin and from the Silver Basin to the Lookout Pass zone.
The warning includes the higher elevations of Bonner, Boundary and Shoshone counties. The avalanche danger is listed as “high” for the warning area and is expected to rise later on Tuesday.
