Q2 Weather: Windy conditions are blowing a winter storm around Billings

BILLINGS- Mostly cloudy skies and some windy conditions continue to dominate the Billings weather this Wednesday afternoon.

iin the Billings area, the winds of been blowing out of the West at 30 mph and gusting to 38 mph. Those strong, gusty winds have driven the temperature up to 43 degrees in the early afternoon.

In fact, we’ve had strong, gusty winds through central Montana most of the afternoon, including gusts from 25 mph at Havre to 45 mph at Lewistown.

Plus, we still have a High Wind Warning for the Beartooth foothills for winds gusting 60 to 75 mph through 5 p.m. Thursday.

A little farther north, the winds are gusting 55 to 65 mile-per-hour in north-central Montana.

A little closer to the mountains, winds could be gusting up to 90 mph.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for west-central Montana through 5 p.m. Wednesday for another one to two inches of snow.

The winter storm came in last night but started splitting apart earlier this morning. Half of it stayed to the north and the other half tracked southeast.

The high-resolution forecast model shows the storm in the north by Havre will continue to drop into Miles City and the rest of east-central Montana by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

After that, mostly sunny skies come out on Thursday and stick around most of the day.

A few clouds roll in by 6 p.m. Thursday but roll out by 10 p.m. Then on Friday, we will be left with mostly sunny skies again.

Ttemperatures will respond favorably to all the sunshine and bounce back up into the upper 40s to near 50 degrees for the end of the week and the weekend.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and windy again. Southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to around 40 mph. High 43 degrees.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny, breezy and warm. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph. High 48 degrees.
