Q2 Weather: Snow ends but cold and wind take over

Posted

BILLINGS – It will be a cold start to the new year.

While the fresh snow and travel conditions will get our attention early Monday, cold temperatures and bitter cold wind chills are concerns for Monday and Tuesday.

With snow showers ending across the area Monday morning, some clearing will occur by the afternoon. High temperatures Monday will only be in the single digits to low teens.

With a clearing sky and fresh snow on the ground, temperatures will drop mainly to the single digits above and below zero early New Year’s Day. Increasing winds will produce bitter cold wind chills.

Limit exposure and dress appropriately to prevent frostbite. Blowing snow is also a concern with limited visibility.

Temperatures begin to warm over the next few days, but wind will continue to make it feel colder. Highs Tuesday will be mainly in the low 20s, the 30s are reachable for highs by Wednesday, and some low 40s could be expected by Thursday. But all three days will have periods of wind and potential for blowing snow.
